However, the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute (HUPTI) in Virginia opening in 2010 also claims to be the \u201clargest proton treatment facility in the world\u201d.<\/p>\n
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma through ProCure plans to open a Proton Center in 2009 and they make no claims as to size.<\/p>\n
From my point of view, I don\u2019t care, I\u2019m just thrilled that the \u201ccoming on line\u201d of these three new Proton Centers is imminent. <\/p>\n
My opinion, based on my personal experience at Loma Linda in 1999, and that of many others treated with protons whom I have met, is that proton therapy is the new Gold Standard. It is a treatment without the unpleasant side effects often mentioned in articles on other forms of \u201cradiation\u201d or surgery of any kind. <\/p>\n
Just ask your doctor a simple question, \u201cIs the Radiation you propose based on X-Rays as the primary radiation treatment?\u201d If that answer is Yes! and unless it is Protons, that will be the answer, meaning that you are going to have some degree of tissue damage as the X-rays are unstoppable once applied.<\/p>\n
Protons on the other hand are completely controllable and with minor additional precautions my personal results from treatment that ended 8 years and 10th months ago are wonderful.<\/p>\n
