{"id":27,"date":"2006-08-27T15:58:56","date_gmt":"2006-08-27T22:58:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.prostateblog.com\/?p=27"},"modified":"2007-01-21T19:46:53","modified_gmt":"2007-01-22T02:46:53","slug":"seven-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.prostateblog.com\/?p=27","title":{"rendered":"Seven Years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently M D Anderson published an article citing the side effects of radiation. <\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t have any of those side effects, seven years after my Proton Treatment ended at Loma Linda University Medical Center\u2019s Proton Treatment Center on August 27, 1999.<br \/>\nThe word is out and on August 22, 2006, a report on M.D. Anderson by MSNBC on the web pointed out many of the advantages of proton therapy. <\/p>\n<p>The doctors cited in this report who \u201cworry that the benefits to a few cancers don\u2019t outweigh the enormous costs, when recent advances in traditional radiation make it safer to use\u201d, obviously these doctors do not know much about the Proton. Since LLUMC treats 50 body sites for cancerous and benign conditions a \u201cfew\u201d cancers is not in the equation. \u201cTraditional radiation\u201d is X-Rays in any treatment form and they do damage tissue. It is unfortunate the Protons are often mistaken for Photons.<\/p>\n<p>Protons with an \u201cR\u201d had no significant side effects in my case, while<\/p>\n<p>Photons with an \u201cH\u201d are X-Rays, and have a consistent history of tissue damage particularly to the Rectum and Bladder in the case of Prostate patients, although new radiation techniques have helped minimize damage.
